Advanced 3D Modeling Techniques - 6 week evening course

Advanced 3D Modeling Techniques will be taught by RSP Modeller, Qazi Javed who’s work has most recently appeared on The Predator, Animal World, Peter Rabbit, and Thor: Ragnarok.

This course picks up from where the introductory course left off. Now with a good understanding of the modeling tools, workflow and strategies to attempt a hard surface model, we will continue refining and mastering a variety of modeling techniques that make for a solid model.

This course is a 6 week intensive for everyone who has a good command of Maya and a grasp of how to take a model from Maya to a sculpting software for detailing for photo realism. You will have a good understanding of mesh flow, levels of detail, clean geometry, real-world proportions, UV Mapping, UV tiles and an ability to research and deconstruct any model that you attempt.

We will work on polishing these techniques and work on creating a model that works well in a studio’s pipeline and can be used across all departments to deliver in shots. By the end of the course you will be expected to submit a 10 second turntable of your final model, which should serve as a good foundation for your demo reels to apply for jobs.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  • Good understanding of the 3D Modeling Workflow in a real world pipeline
  • Refined modeling techniques
  • Understanding of complex modeling
  • Understanding of level of detail for model creation
  • To use various software as tools to express creative innovation

SOFTWARE

  • Maya
  • Mudbox / ZBrush

COURSE PREREQUISITES

This course is suitable for the following candidates:

  • Those that have successfully completed the previous “Introduction to Modelling course” at Rising Sun Pictures.
  • Students that have successfully completed the UniSA “Introduction to Modelling and Texturing” course as part of the Media Arts degree.
  • PLEASE NOTE: If you have previous modelling experience but are unsure if you are suitable for this course, please submit renders/wireframes of your best work for evaluation of course elegibility.  Keep it simple… Focus on the models!
