Dan Wills

Houdini Instructor, Uni SA’s Media Industry placement and Graduate Certificate in Dynamic Effects and Lighting

With over 12 years experience creating explosions, magic effects, transformations and procedural cities, Dan Wills is arguably among the most knowledgeable Houdini effects artists in the industry. His credits include Xmen: Days of Future Past, Wolverine, Pan, the last five Harry Potter films, Hunger Games, Teminator 4, The Great Gatsby, Gravity and many other highly recognisable titles. Dan runs internal training sessions for our artists here at RSP, as well as lecturing our UniSA Third Year Media Industry Placement students and also RSP’s latest offering, the Graduate Certificate in Dynamic Effects and Lighting.

Jeremy Kelly-Bakker

Student short film Writer and Director

Jeremy got his start at Rising Sun Pictures at 19 as a trainee. In the years since Jeremy has worked at Animal Logic, Fuel VFX, Luma Pictures, and Kojo as a compositor on projects such as Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, Iron Man and Captain America.
Jeremy has remained active with Adelaide film and television productions, working on locally produced shows such as Lucy and Dic, Danger 5, Wastelander Panda and The Pack.  He has directed three award winning short films around China in Mandarin and Cantonese and continues to write and direct his own short films and stories under the banner of “We Made a Thing Studios”.

Greg Wieder

Lighting Instructor, Graduate Certificate in Dynamic Effects and Lighting

Greg has extensive experience as a Lighting Technical Director and also as a Pipeline Developer.  He completed a Bachelor of Computer Animation & Film Production at the Edinboro Univeristy of Pennsylvania and has since worked as  a Lighting TD on movies like Pan, Gods of Egypt, X-Men: Apocalypse, Game of Thrones and the The Legend of Tarzan.  Most recently, Greg undertook the role of Pipeline TD on xXx: The Return of Xander Cage and also Logan.

Greg has also had previous teaching experience as a lecturer at Carnegie Mellon University in the Masters of Entertainment Program.

Qazi Hamza Javed

Instructor, Modelling and Texturing

Qazi is a Modeller / Digital Artist at Rising Sun Pictures, he creates production-ready Organic (Character/Props) and Hard Surface (Props/Environments) assets. When he’s not modelling, Qazi is busy busy working on developing and testing out various modelling pipeline tools.  Credits include Logan, xXx: Return of Xander Cage and X-Men: Apocalypse.  Qazi has previous teaching experience at University and TAFE and teaches both the Intro to Modelling and Texturing short course and also the Modelling and Texturing unit from the Uni SA Media Arts degree.

Christina Rzewucki

Instructor, Look Development and Texturing

Christina Rzewucki is a Texture and Look Development Artist at Rising Sun Pictures. Christina began her career with the game company Monkeystack. Since joining RSP in 2017, she has applied her diverse technical and creative skills to projects including the blockbusters Thor: Ragnarok and Tomb Raider. Christina teaches the texturing component of ‘Look Development and Lighting,’ a second year elective course associated with UniSA’s Media Arts degree.  

Sam Hodge

Lighting Instructor, UniSA Graduate Certificate in Dynamic Effects and Lighting and Media Arts degree.

Sam is one of the computer graphics knowledge bases here at RSP with experience ranging from the story telling to software engineering with everything in between. Coming from a background in genetic engineering, he retrained into creating life through polygons and pixels back in the late nineties. He has over thirty Hollywood feature credits mostly at Rising Sun Pictures, including VFX Oscar winning films Gravity and Avatar. Sam’s experience includes working in creature setup, lighting, CG supervision and pipeline. He started with RSP in 2005 and loves being able to share his experience with the students, he keeps to to date with current trends in technology never wanting to miss out on the next new thing, currently dabbling in machine learning and artificial intelligence.
Sam is passionate about teaching and finds it very rewarding.

Merinda Janse Van Rensburg

Rotoscope and Compositing Instructor, Graduate Certificate in Compositing and Tracking

Merinda is a Prep Lead / Silhouette Paint / Compositor at Rising Sun Pictures and prides herself with attention to detail.  She is dedicated to producing flawless quality images with a hunger to constantly grow and improve.

Merinda gets immense joy from collaborating with creative teams through the movie making process and is naturally drawn to taking part in the behind the scenes wonder of the cinematic theatre experience since the age of the Jurassic Park.  She has worked on movies like Guardians of the Tomb, Thor: Ragnarok, Alien: Covenant, Logan, xXx: Return of Xander Cage, The Osiris Child, Game of Thrones – The Winds of Winter and X-Men: Apocalypse.

John Toth

Rotoscope and Compositing Instructor, Graduate Certificate in Compositing and Tracking

John is highly passionate about Visual Effects and teaching.  He enjoys working within a team and is always looking for opportunities to work on something new and learn.  His passion for bringing new materials and ideas together to create eye catching visual effects has translated into him assisting students take their projects to new levels. So what does teaching mean to John?  Well as John puts it, “it’s the cherry on top!”

John has worked on movies like The Predator, Animal World, Tomb Raider, Peter Rabbit, Thor: Ragnarok, Alien: Covenant, Logan, xXx: Return of Xander Cage, League of Gods, Legend of Tarzan, Game of Thrones (The Winds of Winter and Blood of My Blood), X-Men: Apocalypse and Pan.

Anil Reddy

Matchmove / Tracking Instructor, Graduate Certificate in Compositing and Tracking

Prior to working at Rising Sun Pictures, Anil worked at MPC, Double Negative and Rhythm and Hues.  As a lead match move artist, Anil has developed briefs for outsourcing to vendors, QC of vendors shots, bidding match move shots, troubleshooting and quality checking tasks.  He also has previous VFX teaching experience at MPC.

Anil has worked on movies like Tomb Raider, Thor: Ragnarok, The Mummy, Wonder Woman, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, Passengers, Suicide Squad, Maleficent, Godzilla, and Life of Pi.

Thomas Maher

Teaching assistant, UniSA Media Arts degree and Graduate Certificate courses

Prize winning student from the February 2017 intake of the Graduate Certificate in Dynamic Effects and Lighting, Tom assists with both the undergraduate and post-graduate VFX programs at RSP run in conjunction with the University of South Australia.

While working at Rising Sun Pictures, Tom also divides his time with his employment commitments at Resin VFX and has previous Houdini teaching experience at TAFE SA.

Dilen Shah

Rigging Instructor, Introduction to Rigging short course

With over 7 years of experience in the industry, Dilen Shah has worked in almost all aspects of the entertainment industry, from gaming companies to commercials, TV Series, animated feature films and now the VFX industry. Dilen started his career in Europe and worked for companies in France as a Character/Creature Technical Director and also in the Pipeline Department. Dilen is currently working as a Creature Technical Director at Rising Sun Pictures and has movies like Thor: Ragnarok, Peter Rabbit and Tomb Raider under his belt. When not working on projects, Dilen spends his time on RnD and tools that are necessary in the Creature Department.  Dilen has previous teaching experience at the Dwarf Academy in Montpellier, France as a Rigging and Python instructor.
