Dan Wills

Houdini Instructor, Uni SA’s Graduate Certificate in Dynamic Effects and Lighting and 3rd year Bachelor of Film and Television VFX specialisation.

With over 16 years experience creating explosions, magic effects, transformations and procedural cities, Dan Wills is arguably among the most knowledgeable Houdini effects artists in the industry. His credits include Xmen: Days of Future Past, Wolverine, Pan, the last five Harry Potter films, Hunger Games, Teminator 4, The Great Gatsby, Gravity and many other highly recognisable titles. Dan runs internal training sessions for the artists here at RSP, as well as lecturing the UniSA Third Year students in the FX and Lighting specialisation and also  the Graduate Certificate in Dynamic Effects and Lighting course.

Nikhil Khamboj

Modelling Instructor, 2nd year UniSA Bachelor of Film and Television

A graduate from UniSA and the Vancouver Film School, Nikhil is a modeller / digital artist at Rising Sun Pictures, he creates production-ready organic (Character/Props) and Hard Surface (Props/Environments) assets.  Nikhil’s credits include Spiderman Far from home, X-Men Dark Phoenix, Captain Marvel and Alita: Battle Angel.  Nikhil teaches the Hard surface modelling elective course from the Uni SA Bachelor of Film and Television.

Christina Ryan

Look Development and Texturing Instructor, 2nd year UniSA Bachelor of Film and Television

Christina Ryan is a Texture and Look Development Artist at Rising Sun Pictures. Christina began her career with the game company Monkeystack. Since joining RSP in 2017, she has applied her diverse technical and creative skills to projects including the blockbusters Thor: Ragnarok and Tomb Raider. Christina teaches the texturing component of ‘Look Development and Lighting,’ a second year elective course associated with the Uni SA Bachelor of Film and Television.

Mathew Mackereth

Lighting Instructor, UniSA Graduate Certificate in Dynamic Effects and Lighting and also UniSA Bachelor of Film and Television.

Mathew Mackereth joined the education team in 2021 to teach lighting to the UniSA VFX specialisation / Graduate Certificate students so too the elective Lighting and Look Development course.  Matthew is a Senior Lighter at RSP and previously worked at companies like Animal Logic, Cutting Edge and Iloura.

Film credits include: Ford v’s Ferrari, Captain Marvel, Alita: Battle Angel, The Predator, Tomb Raider, Thor: Rangnarok, The Avengers, Happy Feet Two and The Lego Movie.

Tom Baxter

Tracking and Matchmove Instructor, UniSA Graduate Certificate in Compositing and Tracking and 3rd year degree VFX specialisation.

Tom Baxter is an experienced Layout Artist with a demonstrated history of working in the VFX, gaming and film industry. Since commencing at RSP, Tom has worked on the following films: Alita: Battle Angel, Animal World, Tomb Raider, Dumbo, X-Men: Dark Phoenix and Captain Marvel. Tom is a passionate educator who thrives on passing on knowledge to the younger generation of VFX artists!

Anil Reddy

Tracking and Matchmove Instructor, UniSA Graduate Certificate in Compositing and Tracking and 3rd year degree VFX specialisation.

Prior to working at Rising Sun Pictures, Anil worked at MPC, Double Negative and Rhythm and Hues.  As a lead match move artist, Anil has developed briefs for outsourcing to vendors, QC of vendors shots, bidding match move shots, troubleshooting and quality checking tasks.  He also has previous VFX teaching experience at MPC.

Anil has worked on movies like Tomb Raider, Thor: Ragnarok, The Mummy, Wonder Woman, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, Passengers, Suicide Squad, Maleficent, Godzilla, and Life of Pi.

Thomas Maher

Houdini Instructor, UniSA Bachelor of Film and Television VFX specialisation and Graduate Certificate courses

Prize winning student from the February 2017 intake of the Graduate Certificate in Dynamic Effects and Lighting, Tom teaches in both the undergraduate and post-graduate VFX programs at RSP run in conjunction with the University of South Australia.  Tom is RSP’s go to guy with anything  “education” and tackles anything you throw at him with a cool calm and collected attitude!

Prior to coming to RSP, Tom’s employment history includes working at Adelaide based Resin Visual Effects where he used his Houdini skills to create water effects on the Netflix series Tidelands.  Tom’s most recent credit at RSP includes Captain Marvel.

Huan Luong

Teaching Assistant, UniSA Bachelor of Film and Television VFX specialisation and Graduate Certificate courses

A new addition in 2020 to the RSP Education program, Huan completed the UniSA VFX Specialisation of the Media Arts degree in 2019.  Snapped up by RSP shortly after finishing his training, Huan has been working in the 2D department and is incredibly multi-skilled, hence his ability to fit into our teaching program so well!  Through his training at UniSA and RSP,
Huan has developed skills in FX, Lighting, Compositing, Roto/Paint and 3D Tracking/Match-move, using Houdini, Nuke, Silhouette, 3DEqualizer, and Maya.

Matthew Coombe

Teaching Assistant, 2nd year UniSA Bachelor of Film and Television

Matthew is passionate about modelling and has completed both the UniSA Media Arts degree and also the Graduate Certificate in FX and Lighting.  He has attended all the various levels of short courses that RSP has offered over the years and also completed the Modelling and Texturing elective course as part of the second year of the Media Arts degree.

Ben Cooke

Teaching Assistant, UniSA Bachelor of Film and Television VFX specialisation and Graduate Certificate courses

A newcomer to employment in the RSP Education program in 2020, Ben was one of the first graduates from the UniSA Media Arts VFX specialisation in 2019. Along with one of his classmates, he was employed within one week of completing his studies at Adelaide based Resin Visual Effects as an FX artist. Ben specialises in Houdini – creating pyro and destruction FX and has also worked as a compositor and possesses a great set of generalist skills. Projects he has worked on to date include “Truth to be Told” (Apple TV) and “Heavens: The boy and his Robot” (unreleased).

Jeremy Kelly-Bakker

Student short film Writer and Director

Jeremy got his start at Rising Sun Pictures at 19 as a trainee. In the years since Jeremy has worked at Animal Logic, Fuel VFX, Luma Pictures, and Kojo as a compositor on projects such as Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, Iron Man and Captain America.
Jeremy has remained active with Adelaide film and television productions, working on locally produced shows such as Lucy and Dic, Danger 5, Wastelander Panda and The Pack. He has directed three award winning short films around China in Mandarin and Cantonese and continues to write and direct his own short films and stories under the banner of “We Made a Thing Studios” with business partner .
